Most NJ apple picking farms offer more than just apple picking in NJ—think hayrides, cider tastings, and lots of donuts (yum)—so your family can celebrate the delicious fall fruit, too. Of course, we love apple picking in New Jersey because everyone can do it (yes, even littles), and it’s a core memory maker. If you plan to go, click on the farm’s website for their picking schedules (which vary with each farm). Please keep in mind, unfortunately, due to a late Spring freeze, many apple crops were lost this year and therefore some apple picking is not available this season at local NJ farms. Alstede Farms– Around July 31-November
Visit the farm for apple picking and attend the weekend festivals, which feature animals, cider tasting at the on-site mill, an epic corn maze, and plenty of fall fun. Apples are available through November.

Demarest Farms– August-September, select dates
One of the best places to pick apples in NJ, this farm fills up fast because of its popularity, so be sure to make your reservations and buy your tickets ahead of time. Apple picking season starts in September.

Hillview Farms– Picking in September-October
This low-key farm has been growing fruits and vegetables for almost 150 years. Apples are ready in September, and be sure to stock up at their Farm Market.

Longmeadow Farm– First weekend of September to the last week of October or longer, depending on the weather
Take a fun hayride to pick from Gala, MacIntosh, Ginger Gold, and more apple varieties starting Labor Day weekend. Look out for information about their Annual Harvest Festival for a day filled with food, crafters, music, kids’ activities, and, of course, apple picking.

Mackey’s Orchard– Picking typically starts in September
Home to a 45-acre orchard atop a mountain, take a hayride to pick apples with a breathtaking view of the Delaware Water Gap. Be sure to visit their farmstand for farm-fresh fruits and veggies, baked goods, fresh pressed cider, and ice cream (hello pumpkin, soft-serve). Check their Facebook for picking updates.

Melick’s Town Farm– August-mid-November
In the fall, the farm has festive decorations and some of the best apple picking in NJ. Kids love riding the wagon ride, and of course, you can pick your own apples from August through mid-November. Also, check out their location in Oldwick and visit the historic cider mill.

Pochuck Valley Farm– Beginning of September-October
With 15 different varieties of apples, from Cortland and Granny Smith to Pink Lady and Golden Delicious, this farm is home to over 2,000 trees. Apples will be available from the beginning of September through October.

Riamede Farm– Apples are expected to be available beginning of September
Open to the public since 1974 with apple trees that are over half a century old and 68 acres of farmland, Riamede Farm provides a peaceful old-time apple picking in NJ with over 40 different varieties of apples, starting in September.

Family-owned and open for over 100 years, Wightman Farms grows the freshest fruits and vegetables. It offers pick-your-own apples in varieties like Paula Red, which are available starting in late August.

This newer orchard has everything from Blondee to Aztec Fuji in the fall. They host fall festivals where you can visit the orchards, pumpkin patch, flower patch, corn maze, corn pit, and take a hayride. Be sure to look out for the petting zoo and pony rides as well.

Fall and apples go hand in hand at Terhune Orchards in September and October. Littles will love picking here since the apple trees are kept short, so they’re easy to pick off the branches. After picking, head around the corner for fun with the barnyard animals.
