If you want to combine a classic farm experience with a beautiful landscape (think scenic pastures and rolling hills), then taking a trip to one of Von Thun Farms’ locations—located in South Brunswick, NJ, and another in Washington, NJ—is a must. Each farm offers a slightly different vibe but the same welcoming atmosphere. South Brunswick leans into the classic family-farm experience, with u-pick fruits, a corn maze, and seasonal festivals. The Washington location, situated against a more rural backdrop, offers a similar experience, but with more than six acres of u-pick produce and seasonal flowers, as well as scenic mountain views that make it feel like a genuine escape. Depending on the season, you’ll find everything from sunflower trails to pumpkin picking, plus friendly animals, delicious treats (hello, apple cider donuts), and lots of fun. Read on for more on what to do at both locations. (featured photo credit: Von Thun Farms)
Von Thun Farms: Find Farm Fun At Two Locations

Have fun at the Washington, NJ location
At the Washington Township location, the farm spans over 100 acres of preserved land, featuring fields, orchards, a market, and ample space for exploration. However, during the late summer and into fall, the sunflower field really shines—it spans six acres, equivalent to the combined size of six football fields, and features a jaw-dropping display of over 100,000 sunflowers planted and in full bloom. There are winding paths through the gorgeous blooms, spots to stop for snaps to fill your insta feed, farm animals, and quiet places to stop and appreciate the farm’s beauty during all the seasonal fun. Depending on the season, you’ll find fields full of seasonal produce, including strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, peaches, apples, and pumpkins. And be sure to mark your calendar for the various events happening throughout the year, including the Fall Festival with corn mazes, corn cannons, hayrides, and kids’ activities, as well as the Sunflower Festival, Strawberry Festival, Barnyard Buddies, and the “Hugs With Hope” Barnyard Experience.

Head to the South Brunswick, NJ farm
One of the most beautiful parts of Von Thun Farms is the u-pick fields, where kids and adults alike can meander through, taking in the different kinds of produce and even picking them yourself. At the South Brunswick location, some of the u-pick fruits and vegetables include strawberries, blueberries, peas, blackberries, apples, and, of course, pumpkins during the fall. Just like the Washington locations, the South Brunswick farm offers a robust event calendar with events that appeal to kids and adults. Make sure to check out the Strawberry Festival, Sunflower Festival, Fall Festival Weekends with the Moonlight Corn Maze & Campfires that take you on a nighttime journey through the maze. There’s also Barnyard Buddies, a program designed for children aged two and up with an interest in farm life.

Horse around in Washington Township
Since 2016, Von Thun Farms has been home to Von Thun’s Equestrian, a separate entity from the farm market and u-pick fields, offering a fun and educational experience for horse lovers in your family. There are several equine activities available on the north side of the farm, including western horseback riding lessons, showing, a summer camp, birthday parties, and sales for riders of all levels, from beginner to advanced. One of the programs offered here is PonyPals, a year-round educational program for kids who want to learn more about horses and riding. Going with a group? One-hour group lessons are available, which include two or more riders.

What to know before you go
Both locations of Von Thun Farms are popular spots to visit, especially during the fall, so it’s a good idea to buy your tickets online, which offers a discount. The weekends are usually packed, so try to arrive early to make the most of your time. If you’re planning to come back a few weekends or want more flexibility, check out the season pass or the weekday-only deals. Depending on the time of year and the festival being held, you may need to pay an additional fee for events such as the Sunflower Festival or Fall Weekends. Strollers are welcome, but please note that some areas of the farm may be challenging to navigate with one, so consider this when planning your visit. NJ Mom Tip: If you can swing it, plan to go during the week, when you can enjoy both locations at a slower pace.
