Experience a miniature train world

At the heart of the museum is the miniature train world, which looks like just a tiny world from afar, but up close, it’s a tiny world full of imagination and notable buildings. With 8 miles of train track running throughout the exhibit, it has a ton of intricate details, including miniature art, replicas of real-world landmarks, and gorgeous structures. Make sure you pay attention to the hundreds of buildings, bridges, tunnels, canyons, tiny people, houses, and even life-like street corners with snow-covered sidewalks. 

Ride the outdoor train

Aside from the wonderful miniature train world, one of the biggest highlights for kids at Northlandz is the outdoor train. This 1890s Steam Engine replica winds its way through the grounds of the Southern Raritan River, including woods, tunnels, and along the beautiful water. In the fall, this is a great way to take in the beauty of the changing leaves and enjoy the crisp breeze. The entire ride takes about 30 minutes, and kids will appreciate having a real-life adventure after seeing the train in miniature. 

Visit the doll museum and art exhibits

Have family members who love dolls and art? Make sure you stop by the Doll Museum, where you will find an extensive collection of antique and vintage dolls. Walk through the rooms to see a 94-room dollhouse where dolls are displayed, including haunted ones crafted by famous dollmakers and representing icons from movies and history. After you have made your way through each room, stop by the art galleries and creative displays throughout the space. Then, enjoy the massive pipe organ and music elements that will delight and entertain both kids and adults. 

Let kids play and explore

After exploring the other sections, let kids unleash their creativity in the Kids’ Play Area. Littles can go on a scavenger hunt to explore and collect a goodie bag, color, play with train toys, and participate in hands-on learning activities in an environment designed specifically for them.

Regardless of the season, special events make Northlandz even more fun. During the holidays, there’s a Santa Claus Train with a miniature display decorated with snow, presents, lights, and Christmas trees, and outside, Santa is ready to ride the outdoor train with you.
