Want a family-friendly outdoor activity that’s also delicious? Make a plan to visit one of New Jersey’s blueberry picking farms, where the freshest, juiciest blueberries are ripe and ready to be picked. Like tomatoes, New Jersey is known for growing the best blueberries—the first crops were harvested in Whitesbog and sold over a hundred years ago—and most blueberry farms in New Jersey are still family-owned and operated. And blueberry picking is easy for littles to pull off the bushes in the fields (they sit low on the ground). Keep in mind the season for blueberry picking in New Jersey starts in mid-June and is fleeting, and at some farms, once the berries are picked (which can clear out in a few days), they’re done, so call ahead or check their Facebook page to find out when and if berries are available.
