#NJMOM Adventure: Space Farms Zoo & Museum

0

From the brightly colored peacocks you’ll see exploring the Animal Kingdom, to artifacts and antique cars dating back to 1906, at Space Farms Zoo & Museum, you don’t have to choose between learning about animals and an American history lesson. This NJ gem is a zoo and a museum. The sprawling 100-acre area property in Sussex boasts an eleven building museum along with a 500 animal zoo. It’s open every day through November for a walk through through time and a walk on the wild side.

Time for a visit to Space Farms Zoo & Museum:

The family tradition that started Space Farms Zoo & Museum makes it truly special. Started by Ralph and Elizabeth Space in 1927 as a place to conserve animals and wildlife, Space Farms Zoo & Museum has now grown into NJ’s largest combined zoo and museum. Today, third and fourth generations of the Space family oversee the work and ensure a safe and fun environment for everyone.

At the Space Farms Zoo, you’ll find over 100 species of local, native animals and rare creatures (think lions, tigers, jaguars) from around the world. If your kids ever wanted to see a bear cub up close or feed a llama – this is their chance. The Zoo has the largest private collection of North American animals in their natural surroundings in the United States, and it holds the record for having the largest bear in the world. Meantime, Space Farms Museum is home to over 50,000 artifacts and features all kinds of antique cars, bicycles, horse-drawn carriages, and a miniature circus that will really peak the kids’ curiosity.

What to know before you go

Kids under 3 get in for free, and the the littler kids will love that they’re able to feed farm animals in special access areas. But with so much to see, there really is something for every age. If you’re planning a family day trip, there’s a pizzeria, Extreme Pizza, right on site for a bite. Animals, artifacts, and pizza?! Thanks mom!
