12 Family-Friendly NJ New Years Eve Celebrations


Kids take New Year’s Eve to a whole new level, but that doesn’t mean it has to be another night at home. Whether you soar into 2020 at Six Flags Great Adventure, splash around at a foam party at Sahara Sam’s Waterpark or watch the waterfront fireworks aboard Battleship New Jersey, there are so many awesome ways to celebrate and countdown—with or without champagne.

Here are 12 family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations in NJ:

First Night Ocean City
4PM – 1AM
There is something for everybody at this family-friendly celebration with 22 venues that include magic shows, game shows, an ice rink, inflatables, swimming at the Aquatic & Fitness Center, a skateboard park, karaoke and a planetarium (all activities support local charities). Don’t miss the fireworks display at midnight on 5th Street Beach.

Watch New Year’s Fireworks from the Battleship New Jersey
6PM or 12AM
Families can spend the final night of 2019 enjoying a spectacular view of the New Year’s midnight fireworks from the deck of the Battleship. Make sure to plan for exploration time (both decks will be open 2 hours before each show): Your littles will be thrilled to pull the trigger and fire the ship’s historic 5-inch gun. If want a truly authentic experience, sign up in advance for the overnight, where you can sleep in the bunks just like the crew and grab dinner and breakfast in the chowline.

The Funplex New Year’s Celebration
Ring in the new year with family at this fun-filled indoor amusement park packed with rides, arcade games and more. Take a spin around the go-kart track or play a family game of bowling in the bowling alley. Then, refuel from all that twisting, turning and racing around at The Pit Stop Café.  Start the countdown to 2020 with a Kids Balloon Drop at 8 PM.

STRYKE New Year’s Eve
5:30PM-8:30PM or 9:30PM-12:30AM
Have a ball with 3 hours of unlimited bowling when you reserve a lane at this cool spot. On New Year’s Eve, downtown Morristown becomes a stage for a night full of exciting family-friendly fun. Festivities start at sunset and include over 40 performances, 16 venues, free shuttle bus service, and programming for all ages. Kids will have a ball getting their faces painted, building Legos, seeing lizards at Rizzo’s Reptile Discovery, playing with bubbles and much more. Performances include music and dance from world cultures to communal drum circles. Don’t miss the dazzling Light Up The Night show at 9:15pm and a Midnight Countdown with fireworks on the green.

Midnight at the Oasis

Your littles will be thrilled to splash into 2020 at this indoor water park, where they can play in the Foam Party, jam out to the DJ, get their limbo on during the party games, and wear all their NYE gear (hats and noisemakers are complimentary). If you’ve all worked up an appetite from the partying, don’t worry—each ticket includes a feast of delicious appetizers, entrees, desserts, a champagne toast for adults and sparkling cider for the kids.

Family Party at Grand Cascades Lodge

Dress up your littles for this special evening that features a buffet feast of passed hors d’oeuvres, carving and pasta stations and plenty of sweets. Kids can dance the night away to a DJ or get their face painted, watch the Wandering Magician and balloon artist and snap some silly photos in the photo booth. Ready for the countdown? New Year’s at Noon at Garden State Discovery Museum 
12PM – 3PM
For kids that can’t stay up past dinner time, they can still get in on the celebrations—head to Cherry Hill for lots of singing, dancing and celebrating. There’ll be two daytime countdowns: The first begins at 11:45 for a countdown to noon, and second begins at 2:45 for 3:00 p.m. After, explore the museum (it will be open until 5:30). And don’t worry about dressing up—kids who come in their PJs between 11am and noon are free.

Pump It Up Noon Year’s Eve
1PM – 3PM
For families that like to move and groove, this daytime event will get your revved up for the New Year. Jump and get all that energy out at Pump It Up’s Balloon Drop Bounce. Littles (and you) will have a ball bouncing around at the holiday-themed Jump N Jam karaoke–a rousing way to end the last day of 2019.

The Adventure Aquarium in Camden’s New Year’s Splash
Spend New Year’s Eve with all the scaly, slimy and feathered residents at Adventure Aquarium (they’re extending hours through 6PM). Kids can enjoy their favorite sea friends and even get their dancing shoes on at the special DJ Shell-ebration Dance Parties. End the evening at the best spot on the waterfront to see the beautiful twilight fireworks display over the Delaware River.

Six Flags Great Adventure’s Holiday in the Park
This special event makes for the perfect daredevil’s New Year’s Eve! You and your littles can ride Nitro, Batman: The Ride, or Superman: Ultimate Flight, and then warm up with s’mores and hot chocolate in the Christmas Village. If you’re not up for the nighttime thrills, head there for their special New Year’s Day celebration, culminating with a spectacular fireworks show.
