This month, RWJBarnabas Health is helping you take control of your breast health and support breast cancer patients and survivors too. Free Breast Cancer Screening and Education Program

This program offers screening mammograms for women, high-risk cancer program assessment, breast health education, and giveaways. The New Jersey Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED) will pay for mammograms for women without health insurance. Women with health insurance will have their visits submitted through their insurance company. Please have your insurance information available at the time of registration.

“Today Show” Nutrition Expert Headlines Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Virtual Breast Cancer Awareness Month Event

Joy Bauer, nutrition and healthy lifestyle expert for NBC’s “Today” show and host of NBC’s “Health + Happiness,” will headline Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset’s virtual Breast Cancer Awareness Month event—”Food Remedies to Fight Breast Cancer”. The program will feature a cooking demonstration and nutrition tips with recipes that help decrease your cancer risk, boost energy and help you live longer. Deborah Lue, MD, a breast surgeon with the RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group and medical director of breast cancer services at RWJUH Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center, will provide more information about breast cancer prevention strategies, including a healthy diet, as well as discuss risk factors for breast cancer, causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic tools and advanced treatment options. She will also offer an overview of the High-Risk Breast Cancer Program at RWJUH Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center. The free event is presented in collaboration with Friends Health Connection.

Faces Of Breast Cancer

Visit The Mall at Short Hills through October 30, 2021, to see The Faces of Breast Cancer, a striking display in Grand Court and throughout the mall. It showcases the powerful stories of women who received their care at Saint Barnabas Medical Center and their partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey—the state’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. In addition, view the wall of ribbons (located adjacent to the Apple Store) representing the 8,330 women in New Jersey diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Saint Barnabas Medical Center is also partnering with 40 stores throughout the mall to display valuable breast health tips from our doctors.

Free Breast Cancer Screening Event
November 6, 10 AM-2 PM
There will be free mammography and clinical breast exams for uninsured or underinsured women ages 40 to 74. Appointments are necessary, and certain conditions apply. The program was made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Health and administered by Hoboken Family Planning.
