Sure, a construction-themed amusement park sounds cool, but until you visit Diggerland USA in West Berlin, you won’t believe your eyes. As you watch your kids confidently drive a real tractor, hear their squeals as they scoop up dirt with a mini-digger, or climb onto and ride a full-size excavator, you realize Diggerland USA is something else. With this gem in South Jersey, 20 miles from Philadelphia (West Berlin, to be exact), your family can experience an unforgettable day together filled with fun, thrills, and even a little education. The NJ MOM Squad had a chance to experience Diggerland USA, and it’s safe to say everyone—from the littles to mom and dad—had a blast. Look at this amusement park’s seasonal highlights, and read on for what to expect when you visit. (featured photo credit: NJ MOM)

Truck fun for everyone

Diggerland is the only construction theme park in the US, which means you know you’ll be in for a ton of one-of-a-kind experiences you can’t do anywhere else. There is so much to take in for little ones—from the mini-diggers where they can dig for treasures to the skid steers and tractors they get to steer themselves—it’s all totally hands-on and super fun. With ride restrictions thoughtfully based on height, most attractions are available to children 36 inches and taller when accompanied by a responsible adult. Children 42 inches tall can join the fun at the Elevation Station and Crazy Cranes, provided they can sit and stand unaided. Our kids loved taking the dumper trucks around the track and hopping on the battle trucks for a little off-road adventure. The Dig-A-Round was a huge favorite—I mean, what kid wouldn’t love a merry-go-round where you ride in the scoop of an excavator?

Rides, rides and ride-ons

For the bigger kids (and adults), there are rides that up the thrill factor. Head up into the Sky Shuttle—a telehandler that pushes you 50 feet into the air, or conquer that adrenaline rush on the Spin Dizzy—which lifts and spins you as you sit in an excavator bucket and hold on. For a bird’s eye view of the whole park, the Soaring Eagle zip line takes you on a 700-foot ride that shows you all of Diggerland USA (and then some). And while the big machinery is the star attraction, it’s the little touches throughout the park add to the family fun. From a ropes course and bright, fun playground to an arcade and other on-theme games, there are surprises at every turn to wow your whole crew.

Get wet at The Water Main

With a vast wave pool and attractions, Diggerland’s 2-acre water park, The Water Main, is the place to go from Memorial Day to Labor Day (mid-September if weather allows), and the best part is that it’s included with general admission. Go wading in Bulldozer Bay, splash in Jackhammer Bay, and race down the dual slides. Then, dive into Clawhammer Cove’s wave pool, which mimics a real ocean with zero entry and 4-foot waves. There are challenges within it, including the Rip Rap Run obstacle course that lets you walk on water and the exciting Carpool Lane—a crossing course for traversing the 24-foot-long pool using floating-themed pads. And you won’t have to stay wet—there are lockers to stash your stuff to change, and you can even rent a personal cabana for the day full of chairs, power outlets, a refrigerator, and more. Enjoy a comfy shaded area for eating and a cafe with food options to fuel you for the day, too. And if your little one loves mermaids, don’t miss them when they visit on select dates in the summer.

Diggerland Fall Festival fun

Come September, Diggerland transforms into a fall wonderland full of foliage, forklifts, and nonstop fun, with 40+ rides and attractions to enjoy during the Diggerfest Fall Festival. You won’t want to miss the pipe roll, fun maze, and yummy fall food treats. Kids will love to visit the animals at the petting zoo, try the autumn hay maze, decorate pumpkins, and play seasonal games (hi-striker, anyone?). Typically, Circus Stella performs in October, and you’ll be amazed watching balance artist Dextre Tripp, his wife Jana, and their five rescue dogs performing astonishing feats. And on select weekends, get a balloon animal or ride in a real number 2 fire engine with the whole family.

The fall festival frequently features the Parade of Machines, where Diggerland USA mascots, fire trucks, tractors, and more are displayed. When you’re ready for a break, try some tasty fall treats and sit by the bonfire toasting delish s’mores. The Lumberjack Claw lets children and families operate an actual log loader with a colossal arcade claw or take a hayride with your friends and family in the chilly fall weather.

Get in the spirit at the Diggerland USA Drive-Thru Holiday Light Show

The holidays arrive at Diggerland USA in November, when you can buckle up and drive through America’s only construction-themed park, seeing trucks, construction vehicles, and mesmerizing tunnels get a glow up for the festive season. Littles will love to see all their favorite trucks, diggers, and loaders, along with festive scenes all decorated with tons of colorful, glowing lights, and go through illuminated tunnels around the park. Tune into the Holi-Dig radio station to fill your vehicle with holiday spirit and sing along tunes as you enter the drive-thru show. And to continue the festive feeling, stop by The Fork Lift Cafe for some hot cocoa and tasty treats before or after your drive.
