Winter is coming, and so are those seasonal colds and flu. But this year with COVID, we’ve got more than the usual concerns, and that’s why we’ll be sitting down this week on Facebook Live with Dr. Matt McDonald, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Children’s Specialized Hospital and Chair of Pediatric Quality for the RWJBarnabas Health system. Dr. McDonald will shed some light on what parents should be thinking about as we embark on and prepare for this cold and flu season– the first full winter since the coronavirus pandemic began. He will share tips about immunity, insight into what the medical community sees right now around the state, and lend his expertise to answer your questions.

About Dr. Matt McDonald
Dr. Matthew B. McDonald is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Children’s Specialized Hospital and serves as the Chair of Pediatric Quality for the RWJBarnabas Health system.
Dr. McDonald joined the Children’s Specialized team in 2014 as Section Chief of Special Needs Pediatrics. While in this role, he helped develop the first National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) certified medical home in New Jersey for children with special health care needs and medical complexities. In addition, he led the expansion of CSH’s second Special Needs Primary Care location in Hamilton, NJ, which is dedicated to providing primary care to children with special health care needs and their siblings. In 2016, Dr. McDonald became the President of the Medical Staff at CSH, and in October 2017, he was appointed Associate Vice President and Medical Director of Outpatient Services before taking on the role of Vice President and Chief Medical Officer in June 2018. All the while, Dr. McDonald continues to enjoy his passion for caring for patients in the CSH primary care practice in Hamilton, NJ.
