We’re fortunate enough to live in the Garden State, and heading to one of the pick your own farms in NJ is a welcome way to get nutrient-rich food and have a fun outing with the fam. Opening day for picking is mid-May, with most farms ending in October, so there are plenty of opportunities to pick fresh produce from spring to fall (check each farm’s website for specific dates, which can fluctuate based on the weather). Read on for the best pick your own farms in NJ and a calendar of New Jersey’s growing season so you know when you can load up on your family’s favorites. And if you’re strictly organic, look at our round-up of organic U-pick farms in New Jersey. (featured photo credit: istock.com/romrodinka)

Alstede Farms

At Alstede Farms, families can experience the joy of visiting a real working farm through our popular Pick-Your-Own program. The season begins with sweet strawberries in late May and continues throughout the growing season—often through the end of October or early November, weather permitting. Guests can pick a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables while learning how food is grown and harvested right here on the farm. A visit offers much more than just picking produce. Enjoy scenic countryside views, tractor-drawn wagon rides to the fields, and a relaxed day outdoors with family and friends. Our farm also features fresh food, homemade ice cream, weekend live music, seasonal food festivals, and educational opportunities for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re picking your own berries, exploring the fields, or simply enjoying a day on the farm, Alstede Farms provides a memorable farm experience that connects people with agriculture and the source of their food.
