National Park Week starts tomorrow! That means free entrance to national parks all over the country and of course, right here in the beautiful Garden State. Before you explore our list of parks to visit in New Jersey, here are some things you need to know before exploring outdoors this weekend:

  • Check the weather before you head out, you don’t want a thunder storm to ruin your adventure.
  • Tell someone your plans e.g. where you’re going and what time you plan on returning.
  • Use a current trail map (most parks have them on their website)
  • Don’t wear expensive jewelry or leave money/valuable items in sight in your car
  • Be alert! We can’t emphasize this enough. Always be aware of your surroundings and who/what is around you.
  • Get a FREE copy of the National Park Foundation’s Owner’s Guide

About Author

Paula is a short, bubbly writer for NJ Mom, who just graduated from Montclair State University. Everyone calls her Paula except for her family who calls her Pau. She loves to eat Thai food from Four Seasons in South Plainfield, NJ and anything that resembles an empanada (empanadas, samosas, spanakopitas, etc.) In the summer, she enjoys going to the beach with friends and family. At home, she has two blue nose pit bull puppies named Rosie and Rodney, who always have energy. Paula enjoys writing for NJ Mom because she loves sharing all things New Jersey with its readers. She aspires to become a visual merchandiser one day.
