Want To Help Make A Change? Support These Local Black-Owned Businesses During Black History Month

The past year has shown us how important it is to stand in solidarity and fight for racial equality.  As we celebrate Black History month, one way to do that is to support local black-owned businesses. Like all local businesses, they’ve been hit hard by COVID-19, but many Black-owned businesses even in flush times lack the advantages of funding due to discrimination. Plus, spending your dollars equally also promotes economic diversity and helps to break systemic racism. To that end, we put together a list of NJ businesses by area with recommendations from @verybessie, @gracesonde_ @jerseygirltravels, @andrea.her, @cookskitchn, and ShoppeBlack.us. Did we miss you or one you know of? Click on this form, and we’ll make sure to add it. Also, check back for updates regularly, as well as keep refreshing the list as it grows.

  1. Ellen E Charles on

I personally think it’s a wonderful and awesome opportunity to read and know about so many Black owned Businesses in New Jersey.I myself a Black Business owner at Precious kids Daycare for the past 40 years would be honored if I was able to join such a wonderful and privileged group of ontropernols if it was possible .

    • Hi Ellen! We would love to add your business. Can you please email info @ njmom.com with your business information. Thank you!

  2. What do you have to do to be featured in this article? I have a businesslocated in Newark, House of Gittens, where we create handmade jewelry from fresh fruits and we also provide image consultations and personal shopping experiences.

  3. Hi and welcome to my website . I’m Henley Mcfarlane.
I have always dreamed of being a novelist but never dreamed I’d make a career of it. In college, though, I assisted a fellow student who needed help. She could not stop telling me how well I had done. Word got around and someone asked me for writing help just a week later. This time they would compensate me for my work.
During the summer, I started doing academic writing for students at the local college. It helped me have fun that summer and even funded some of my college tuition. Today, I still offer my writing services to students.

  4. Hi and thank you for this list. Have you received any submissions from Black owned gift shops (ie vendors selling greeting cards and other knickknacks)? Would love to give some support to them instead of just buying cards from CVS. Thank you
