Foundation with SPF 40 Study

How Does it Work? 

After completing an informed consent form, you’ll receive a visual examination of your face by an expert grader, board certified dermatologist or board certified ophthalmologist to see which group study you quality for. If you do qualify for either the MD group study or the expert grader group study, you’ll receive the test material, instructions and a daily diary to document your test material usage. The test material must be used at home for 4 weeks. You must have visible acne and attend both sessions for 45 minutes each in order to participate in the MD group study. Similarly, you have to attend both sessions for 30 minutes each in order to participate in the expert grader group study.

Facial Gel Cream Study

When?

How Does it Work?

First, you’ll receive a facial exam by a board certified dermatologist to make sure that you qualify for the study—you can’t have any severe redness, swelling or dryness on your face and you must also have at least one moderate dark spot, hyper-pigmentation or an uneven skin tone. If you do qualify, you’ll receive an 8 week supply of the test material, facial sunscreen, instructions and a daily diary to document your test material usage. After 4 weeks of using the test material, you’ll receive a facial irritation examination by a dermatologist, answer a questionnaire and return your daily diary for review. After another 8 weeks of test material use, you’ll need to return and repeat these steps. You must attend all sessions for 30 minutes each in order to participate.

Ingrown Hair Treatment Study

When?

How Does it Work?

See if you qualify for this study by getting an exam of your bikini line by a registered nurse—at least one ingrown hair must be present in order to start. If you qualify, you’ll receive the test material, instructions and a daily diary to document test material usage. After days 1, 3, 4, 7 of using the test material, you’ll get the ingrown hair and surrounding area evaluated by a registered nurse. You’ll return your test material and completed daily diaries, as well as take a final questionnaire, at your final visit. You must attend all visits to participate, and call in advanced to schedule an appointment during the designated block of time.

Mascara Study

How Does It Work?

First, receive an eye examination by a board certified ophthalmologist to see if you qualify. If you do, you’ll receive the test material, instructions and a daily diary. Use the test material at home for 4 weeks. At your final visit, you’ll receive a final eye examination once again — be sure not to wear any eye makeup to your visits, but if you are a contact wearer, be sure to wear your contacts. You must attend each session for 20 minutes in order to participate.

Facial Moisturizer Study

When?

How Does it Work?

After receiving an facial exam by an expert grader for qualification, you’ll get the test material, instructions and a daily diary. You’ll be instructed to use the test material at home for 4 weeks. When you return for your second visit, you will receive final examinations by the expert grader and answer a questionnaire. Please don’t wear any face, eye or lip products to the testing facilities. You must attend each session for 30 minutes each in order to participate.

Facial Creme Study

When?

How Does it Work?

You’ll receive a facial exam by a board certified dermatologist to see if you qualify for this study—if you have noticeable redness, swelling or dryness, you may not qualify. But you can do the study if you have hyper-pigmentation, or an uneven skin tone. Once you get the okay, you’ll receive an 8 week supply of the test material, a facial sunscreen, use instructions and a daily diary to document your test material usage. After 4 weeks of using the test material, you’ll return to the facility for an irritation examination of the face by a dermatologist. You must attend all 30 minute sessions in order to participate.

Facial Tonic Study

How Does it Work?

First, receive a facial exam by a board certified dermatologist. You must have at least one moderate dark spot, hyper pigmentation or an uneven skin tone to participate. If noticeable redness, swelling or dryness is observed, you won’t be able to participate. If you do qualify, you will receive an 8 week supply of the test material, a facial sunscreen, instructions, and a daily diary to document your test material usage. After 4 weeks of using the test material, you’ll return for a facial irritation exam by a dermatologist, answer a brief questionnaire and return your daily diary. After another 8 weeks of test material usage, subjects will return for a final irritation exam of the face. You must attend each session for 30 minutes in order to participate.

Microneedling Study

When? 

August 6, 1 PM – 4 PM

How Does it Work? 

First, report to the facility with freshly cleansed skin, without lotions, creams, oils, makeup, deodorant, powder, perfume, or sunscreen applied to their back and receive an examination of their back by a Board Certified Dermatologist. If you qualify, two 4 cm x 4 cm test sites will be demarcated on your back using a surgical pen. A technician will generate a template needed for future visits. The Dermatologist, assisted by a Registered Nurse, will then complete the microneedling procedure, topical test material application, and Clindamycin Phosphate application. You must attend all visits to participate, and call in advanced to schedule an appointment during the designated block of time.

12 Week Anti-Aging Product Study

When?

August 12, 9 AM – 12 PM 
August 19, 9 AM – 1 PM

How Does it Work? 

First, report with a pre-washed face (wash at home), without moisturizer, makeup, or jewelry (earrings or necklace) and then you’ll complete an Informed Consent Form, a Photographic Release Form and a Medical History Form to determine initial qualification. An Expert Grader will visually evaluate your face for redness, swelling, dryness, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. To qualify, you must have at least mild wrinkles and uneven skin tone, however you cannot have more than moderate redness, dryness, or swelling. You’ll be provided with a cleanser and moisturizer, and then required to use this specified facial cleanser and facial moisturizer twice daily and exclusively throughout the trial. A Conditioning Phase daily diary will be provided to each subject to document each cleansing and moisturizer application. At your second visit, your evaluations will be repeated and your daily diary will be reviewed. You’ll then wash your face and equilibrate in an environmentally-controlled room for at least 30 minutes. After equilibration, a Bio instrumentation technician will capture baseline 2D and 3D images of your face, take skin elasticity measurements of each subject’s right or left upper cheek, and skin moisture measurements of either the right or left outer corner of your eye. You’ll again receive the test material, a daily diary, and instructions for use. The first application of the test material will take place at the Testing Facility under clinical supervision. You may continue using their regular facial makeup products, however you shouldn’t introduce any new cosmetic, toiletry, or personal care product during the course of the trial. After 6 weeks and then 12 weeks respectively, you’ll return and the process will be repeated, a final image capture and skin measurement taken, daily diary returned, and a final questionnaire taken.

How Does it Work?

Products will be applied continuously over the course of 5.5 weeks, under closed or open patches like Band Aids. Generally, multiple products are tested on a person’s back to demonstrate that products or ingredients have no direct, immediate, irritating or long-term reactions on the skin during the course of this study.

UVA Studies (Sunscreen Dept)

When?

How Does it Work? 

Sunscreen product will be applied to your back, and then your back will be exposed to UV light for approximately 2.5 – 3.5 hours, to see how the sunscreen product reacts to UVA rays. The site on the back will be evaluated 3 times during the course of the day. Visits for this study usually last approximately 5.5 to 8.5 hours.

Sunscreen Static Back Study – 3 day study

When?

How Does it Work? 

The purpose of this study is to estimate the efficacy of a sunscreen test material by determining its SPF Value. Sunscreen product will be applied to your back. Subjects will have their backs exposed to UV Light for the appropriate amount of time depending on the estimated SPF of the product. Cannot be tan, have sunburn or tanning.

Who Can Do It?

This study is for males and females, ages 18 years to 70 years old.

Sunscreen Water Back Study

When?

This study is ongoing. Be sure to check in with CPT Labs, as study times change each week. Appointment times are between 8 AM – 12 PM.

How Does it Work? 

First, a sunscreen product is applied to your back. You’ll then have your back exposed to a UV light lamp for the appropriate amount of time, depending on the estimated SPF of the product. Afterward you’ll head into the water tub, with a comfortable temperature, for 20-40 minutes each and then directed to return to the UV light. This process is repeated.

Photo Allergy Sunscreen Study

When? 

July 29 through August 16
August 26 through August 30

How Does it Work?

Throughout the study, you’ll report to the photobiology lab for five days each week, for a total of 20 visits, in a five-week period. During weeks 1 – 3, you’ll be patched — then 24 hours after patching, you’ll have your patches removed and your back exposed to the UV light. This procedure will be repeated twice weekly. There will be a rest period during the fourth week, and on the fifth week, the process will be repeated again. You’ll then return for visual readings, 24, 48 and 72 hours later.

Throughout the trial, you’ll use a specified facial cleanser and facial moisturizer twice daily and keep track of each application in a conditioning phase diary. At the second visit, the evaluations will be reviewed, you will undergo equilibration and get 2D and 3D images taken of your face—along with skin measurements. This process will be repeated, so after 6 weeks and then 12 weeks, the trial is complete.
