Did you know there are eight days throughout the year when you can get FREE admission to national parks? Yep, it’s true. While our state has mostly national parks with free admission year-round, the Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange, NJ, typically charges a fee, but on the days listed below, you can enter without paying. But the real deal is if you are traveling, especially out west (hello, Yosemite), when it’s gratis to enter on one of these special days. President’s Day – February 16, 2026
Celebrate Washington’s Birthday and visit a National Park in the winter. The winter months are a great time to explore the over 400 National Parks in the United States.
Memorial Day – May 25, 2026
This US Federal holiday honors those who have died while serving in the United States military, and the free day in National Parks commemorates their service to America.
Flag Day – June 14, 2026
The official Stars and Stripes became the official flag of the United States by the Continental Congress in 1777. It symbolizes America’s unity, freedom, and national identity during the Revolution and has become an icon since.
July 3-5, 2026 – Independence Day Weekend
Celebrate the official birthday of the United States of America at a National Park. Then gather with family and friends for food, fireworks, and fun, while also reflecting on the freedom and liberty for all Americans.
August 25, 2026 – 110th Birthday of the National Park Service
On August 25, 1916, the National Park Service was created to “preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.” Now there are over 400 National Parks and many programs that reach communities around the world.
September 17 – Constitution Day
Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the United States Constitution by the Founding Fathers in 1787.
October 27 – Theodore Roosevelt’s Birthday
As the president from 1901 to 1908, Theodore Roosevelt pioneered conservation by creating national parks and forests (230 million acres) during his two terms. This day celebrates his efforts and allows everyone to visit the National Parks he championed.
Veterans Day – November 11, 2025
Dozens of battlefields, parks, and historic sites commemorate the service of the brave men and women who have served our country. That’s why one way to celebrate this day and remember all veterans is to visit National Parks. You can bring your loved ones and spend this moving day in nature.
