Make your own papyrus sheet and write an ancient message!
Before we had books, people shared wisdom on scrolls made from papyrus — one of the earliest types of paper. Today, people share wisdom in books, but long ago, scrolls were how stories and important messages were passed along.
Join us for a hands-on workshop where you will create a sheet of papyrus paper to take home and dry. During the session, you will also write a timeless message on ready-made papyrus paper using special ink pens modeled after those used thousands of years ago. Learn about the ancient city of Byblos — in Phoenicia — which was famous for its role in the papyrus trade, helping connect cultures across the Mediterranean through the sharing of knowledge and stories.
