International Archaeology Day at the New Jersey State Museum

Explore historic archaeology of Colonial and Revolutionary New Jersey. Kids can pick up an “Archaeology Activity Book” and visit artifact station to fill in the pages. Be sure to walk down the street and see the Petty’s Run archaeological site next to the State House. Want to make a day of it? Follow the History Beneath Trenton’s Feet Audio tour available on the Travel Stories app. You can also head over to the William Trent House (approx. 1 mile from the Museum) and stay for archaeology talks from the Archaeological Society of New Jersey:
12:30 pm – 1:00 pm: George M. Leader, Ph.D. Comparative Archaeology of the enslaved at the Trent House and William Green Plantation
1:00 pm – 1:30 pm: Richard Veit, Ph.D. The Trent House Personified: Using Artifact Biographies to Tell the Tale of a Storied House
Don’t miss this deep dive into New Jersey history during our 250th year. During your visit, be sure to see The Power to Change: Revolutionary Stories from the New Jersey State Archives on display until January 10, 2027.
