Free Screenings For Young Athletes

Play it Safe! Cardiac and Concussion Screenings for Young Athletes – Jersey City Medical Center
April 15 at 8 AM
Join us for Play it Safe! Cardiac and Concussion Screenings for Young Athletes. When preliminary testing for serious cardiac problems is provided to young athletes, sudden cardiac arrest and tragic deaths may be avoided. Nearly 90 percent of sudden cardiac deaths in young athletes occur during or after athletic activities, and hidden heart conditions are often the cause. The cardiac screening will help to identify players who may require further testing or intervention.

Concussion Screenings for Young Athletes 5-18 years old: Open to the first 75 athletes
Once again, MJM is excited to bring the FDA-approved ImPACT Pediatric® concussion screening for children ages 5 and older. Until recently, concussion screenings were only available for young athletes ages 10 and above. ImPACT Pediatric is an iPad-based computerized test that is individually and easily administered and engaging for children while effectively measuring neurocognitive function. Concussion screening is available to young athletes ages 5 and older to the first 75 registrants. Having a concussion baseline study (ImPACT) for a young athlete can help identify issues in the future. If an athlete is believed to have suffered a head injury, this screening test may be used to evaluate the severity of the head injury and determine when it is safe to return to play.

The Matthew J. Morahan III Health Assessment Center for Athletes provides education, evaluation, and assessment of sports injury and sports-related cardiac and concussion screenings. Experts recommend these screenings be repeated every two years. An appointment is required in advance. Please use this website to register, and a team member will be in touch via email to confirm appointment availability and time. Your inquiry will be contacted in the order it was received, and you will receive an email within the next few business days. If you are not contacted regarding this request in the next 2-3 business days, please get in touch with Mustafa.naematullah@rwjbh.org. Masks are to be worn in all test and treatment areas.
