The secret is out—Woolverton Inn, tucked away in Stockton, New Jersey, is one of the most charming and luxurious inns in the Garden State. With its idyllic location overlooking the Delaware River Valley, this historic country estate feels like a world away, even though it’s just a short drive from bustling cities like Philadelphia and New York. My husband and I recently spent a weekend here, and it was a retreat we didn’t know we needed—cozy, peaceful, and filled with special touches that made our stay unforgettable. Whether you’re looking for a romantic escape, a family retreat, or simply a weekend of relaxation, Woolverton Inn is a place where timeless charm and modern luxury come together. A room with a story at Woolverton Inn
From the moment we arrived, Woolverton Inn felt like stepping into a storybook. The historic manor house is beautifully preserved, surrounded by lush gardens and meadows. We stayed in one of their beautifully appointed guest rooms in the main house, perfect for couples seeking a quiet getaway with a serene view of their farm. Each room is appointed with antique furnishings and charming details that reflect the Inn’s rich history. Our room had a king-sized bed, a cozy fireplace, and a jetted tub. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the curated selection of books in the room, felt thoughtful and luxurious. For families or larger groups, you can stay in one of their private cottages overlooking a pasture with sheep, perfect for guests seeking a little extra space and privacy.
Mornings made magical with breakfast
One of the highlights of our stay was the gourmet breakfast served each morning. We appreciated that we could select where to dine each morning— the patio, in your bedroom, or their dining room. Every dish was farm-to-table fresh, and we enjoyed it on the patio, soaking in the crisp morning air and serene views. The rotating menu featured delicious options like blueberry pancakes, frittatas made with local eggs, and freshly baked scones. It’s no surprise Woolverton Inn is renowned for its culinary offerings—each bite was a reminder of how food can bring joy.
Exploring Stockton and beyond
Woolverton Inn’s location is perfect for exploring the charming towns of Stockton, Lambertville, and New Hope. We took a leisurely bike ride along the Delaware River Towpath, accessible from the Inn, and enjoyed the stunning foliage and view. The area has antique shops, art galleries, and quaint cafes, making it a great spot to wander and unwind. We also saw nearby wineries and breweries, which are a nice way to spend the day going to tastings and lunch.
Unwinding at Woolverton Inn
The area is beautiful to explore, but we loved hanging out at the Inn and enjoying the property. The sprawling grounds are ideal for picnics or simply sitting with a good book. My favorite moment was sipping tea on the porch swing while watching the sheep graze in the meadow—it was pure serenity. We had dinner at their new restaurant, The Northridge, located in a beautifully renovated stone barn from the 1830s. The meal was expertly prepared by Executive Chef Lance, and our favorites included the pan-roasted salmon and the short ribs. Since the restaurant is BYO, we brought along a special bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal. In the evening, the innkeepers had a treat waiting for us in the living room—freshly baked goods and hot drinks by the fire. These little touches made us feel so welcome, and it’s clear the Woolverton Inn team takes pride in making every guest’s experience unforgettable.
