We’re all ready to ditch this cold weather right now, aren’t we? Luckily the Jersey warmth is around the corner, and now is the perfect time to pull those running shoes out of your closet and run. Running is super beneficial to our health and appearance. But, for some of us, signing up for a race is the most reliable way to stay motivated because by running you benefit others beyond yourself. 5Ks are a great way to stay fit and help others, and they’re an even better event for our energetic kiddos who love running.

If your child and her/his friends love running, these 5K events are a perfect way for them (and you) to get in shape and do something challenging and fun. All of the events listed below include their own kids run events.

5k Running Events in NJ for kids, too:

1. Our Journey 5K for Endometriosis Awareness

This 5K is for you if you’re close to Saddle Brook and want to help those with endometriosis. In addition to this event containing a 3.1-mile run, it also contains a family fun run that you can do with everybody. Proceeds will be given to Research OutSmarts Endometriosis if you register here.

2. Garden State 10

With a course map along the streets of Somerset, this 5K, 10-miler, half marathon event also includes a relay that is perfect for your young ones. If you’ve got people of all ages in your family who love to run, this day means there is a race for everyone. By signing up for either of these runs, you’ll be supporting the Somerset SWAT team.

3. The Colonia 5K Classic

This tri-state area race contains both a fun 5K and a fun run that your kids and everyone they know can participate in. Be sure to register soon, this ultimate fun run is coming right up.

4. De-FEET Breast Cancer 5K Run Walk

We all need a chance to pull out our pink running clothes and get moving. This race event supports the defeat of breast cancer and is the perfect chance for you and your kids to wear pink. Come to Lake Como for the fun.

5. Moving Together Knowlton Community 5K Run/Walk

This 5K event is to support funding for Knowlton County Schools’ Athletic Association. By running, you’ll show everyone in the area just how much run and important being physically active is. This event allows children to not only run in the one-mile fun run, but the 5K as well.

6. Healthy Kids Running Series

Sorry, NJMOM’s, this event is not for parents. But, that’s okay because it’s an event just for your kids. By coming to Wayne, your kids can run the distances they might be asked run in gym class, but in a much more fun way. And, kids who are between the grades of pre-k and eight can do the 50-yard dash or mile run of their wishes. You’ll have a great time as a parent watching your child become a possible future running superstar. Trophies will be given to top runners.

7. Run for Scouting 5K

Do you feel like running a whole 5K? Or, would you rather go for a steady single-mile walk with your family? If you’re in Mount Holly, you can do either of those things at this event that both supports Garden State Council and The Boy Scouts of America.

8. Flashover 5K

Come to Monmouth Regional High School to get behind the starting line for this runner’s event. There is a 5K you can register for at a very low cost. If you register before Mar. 24th, you will only be charged ten bucks if your young ones want to run in the kid’s 150-yard dash. You know you’ll want your dog and your family to watch that!

9. Rev It Up! 5K/10K for Sparta Pal

The best thing about this race is that it includes its own pasta party. Located in Sparta, both race distances will take you and your family of runners through the beautiful scenery of Station Park. Expect to see people of all ages at the starting line whichever race you chose to run in. 7-year-olds will definitely be found running!
