If you’re one of the 400 million Americans who drink coffee every day in the United States, then keep reading….you’re in for some good news! A compelling study was recently published in the American Heart Association Journal circulation. It was conducted by Harvard researchers and it showed coffee to have shown numerous positive effects, regardless as to whether it’s regular or decaf. The study size was large, including more than 200,000 women and 50,000 men. It found that the benefits you’ll experience from a moderate amount, defined as up to five cups a day, are wide-ranging and include from protecting against type 2 diabetes treatment-diabetes-info and cardiovascular disease to lowering rates of depression among women.

Regular consumption of coffee can be included as part of a healthy, balanced diet, said Frank Hu, a professor of nutrition and epidemiology at Harvard and a senior author of the study.

While the benefits are proving to be valuable, it’s important to keep these important tips in mind when selecting your coffee of choice:

  • Make it Organic: Most coffee produced today is heavily contaminated with pesticides. Choose organic varieties to avoid these toxic chemicals.
  • Keep it Whole bean: Purchase coffee in whole bean form and then grind it yourself to prevent rancidity. Pre-ground coffee may be rancid by the time you drink it
  • Drink it Black: If you’re interested in maximizing the health benefits from each cup, drink your coffee black, without sugar or cream.
  • Use Unbleached filters : If you use a “drip” coffee maker, be sure to use non-bleached filters. The bright white ones are chlorine bleached and some of this chlorine will be extracted from the filter during the brewing process.

If you are looking for a new spot to get your daily brew, try New Jersey founded and the widely popular Rook Coffee.
