Hi Jillian! Can you tell us where the name for your business, lovejilly, came from?
Of course, it’s my childhood nickname paired with what makes the world go round.
JILLIAN HOSTNIK, MOM BLOGGER AT LOVEJILLY.COM, TALKS ABOUT BEING A MOM, BEING YOURSELF AND BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR
I love it! How did you come up with the name lovejilly?
It was a combination of thought and process of elimination. I wanted something simple yet me.
Do you have any advice you would you give to moms aspiring to become entrepreneurs?
Yes; Never give up. Failure is a key part of truly succeeding.
That’s great advice. Do you have a specific quote or motto that you live by?
I have a few!
“You be you”
“Follow the call of the disco ball”
“Stranger things have, and stranger things will happen”
and, last but no least,
“C’est la vie”
I’m a bit of a quote nerd. But honestly, “you be you” is my favorite. If you aren’t true to yourself (down to the core) then you don’t have a strong enough foundation to be true and real in other aspects of your life.
I love it. That’s a great way of looking at life. What has become the most challenging part of being a mom-preneur?
The first part of that term…”mom.” When you enter the beautiful and crazy world of motherhood, you essentially are entering into a built in full-time (non) paying position. It’s all about balance, drive, time management, and dedication. My kids are my biggest challenge yet they are also my greatest love, and biggest inspiration. While they are highly distracting and time consuming, they have a natural ability to keep me focused, laughing, and grounded.
Sounds like you’ve found a good balance. What’s your favorite activity to do with your kids?
I love how we always seem to have a way of making everything an adventure. I guess we share a family bond of being creative; we have an amazing ability to make fun appear out of nowhere.
Do you have any “mommy must-haves” that you never leave the house without?
Do oversized sunglasses and Burt’s Bees Chapstick count?
