Treating Moms and Kids With Chiropratic Care at The Spine & Sports Health Center

One of the most common misconceptions about chiropractors is that they primarily treat back pain. And while many moms do seek out chiropractic help for those nagging back issues, caused by pregnancy or carrying a car seat, groceries, and way too much stuff (sound familiar?), the full scope of chiropractic care is so much broader. In fact, a chiropractor can treat kids for ailments that sometimes medicine can’t fix. We sat down recently with The Spine & Sports Health Center’s newest chiropractor, Dr. James Redondo, and found out the surprising range of conditions he is able to treat for us mamas and our kids.

Meet Dr. Redondo

Dr. Redondo, who just joined The Spine & Sports Health Center’s Hoboken office, is a board-certified chiropractor who was born and raised in Bayonne and is known for his highly personalized one-on-one care. Dr. Redondo was inspired to become a chiropractor in his late teens after he was injured while playing football with a group of friends. Barely able to move after being tackled by his neck, he sought help from a chiropractor who not only offered pain relief but also got him thinking about a new career path. In 2005, Dr. Redondo graduated from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartansburg, S.C., and he has been helping patients heal ever since.

What a chiropractor can do for you—and your kids

As the father of a 9-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter, Dr. Redondo knows all too well the feeling of having a child struggling with a health issue. When his daughter was an infant and traveling back and forth daily to daycare, she was regularly having problems with constipation. He was still studying to be a chiropractor at the time and took his daughter to one of his mentors, who gave her adjustments to ease her discomfort. They discovered it was the vibration of the car and lack of padding on the car seat that caused her tailbone to be out of alignment. They added some cushioning, and voila, the constipation issues were resolved.

Have your little ones ever suffered from painful, ongoing ear infections? One of Dr. Redondo’s young patients was scheduled for surgery for the chronic issue, but after three chiropractic visits, the condition was all cleared up. He has also had success in treating other common ailments like asthma and digestive issues.

As for moms, so many of us are now working from home and spend hours crouched over our computers and helping our kids with remote learning. The result? A huge uptick in migraines. Dr. Redondo said many of his patients have been to neurologists to try to get to the root of the headaches, but it often turns out to be caused by issues in the upper part of the neck.

Dr. Redondo takes a holistic, all-natural approach, relying mainly on his medical instruments and his hands. But don’t let the simplicity fool you. Chiropractic care is “a true science,” he said, explaining that one of his tools called a nervoscope can show inflammation of the spine and he can then pinpoint the exact source of pain and probable symptoms a patient is experiencing.

One-stop care at The Spine & Sports Health Center

The one thing all of us have in common as moms is that we’re constantly busy and on the go. And when you’re in pain, the last thing you want to do is trek all over New Jersey to find the different types of care you need to get relief. At The Spine & Sports Health Center in Hudson County, services ranging from chiropractic care, physical therapy, and pain management, to sports medicine and massage treatments, are available under one roof, so you can feel better faster (and get back to that massive to-do list a little bit sooner).

Having the full spectrum of treatment options and resources in one location is part of what drew Dr. Redondo to join the team. Just as important, he explained, is the way the group treats every person who walks in the door with respect, from the greeting at the front desk, to the thoughtful care taken in designing a specialized treatment plan.

“As a practice, we’re always going to provide that personal touch and never want anyone to feel cheated on time,” Dr. Redondo said.
