We’ve got the scoop on New Jersey’s best indoor classes for kids this season: from the 23 acre sporting campus at Superdome Sports in Waldwick and Flash Fiction and Songwriting classes at Project Write Now in Red Bank to instruction in Creating Your Own Dollhouse at Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit and Robotics and 3D Printing at Engineering for Kids in Edison.

Art Classes:

North Jersey: Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit offers an array of art classes for kids during the Winter Session, starting in January 2017. Classes include Kindergarten Art Sampler, Time Capsule, and Explore Sculpture. Kids workshops are one or two day courses that include 3D Fairy Houses, Create Your Own Dollhouse, and Two Days on the Wheel (a pottery workshop). The Mentor Series is available for young artists looking for one-on-one instruction to hone their skills.

Central Jersey: ArtWorks in Trenton blends fine art with “serious” fun to create art classes that kids love. For teens looking to express their creativity in a different way, try Special Effects Makeup 101 for Teens to learn the basics of gory special effects horror makeup in a fun, hands-on atmosphere. For younger kids, December 2016 is all about weaving at ArtWorks! Try your hand at Winter Weaving, Rainbow Weaving, or Woven Bowls.

South Jersey: Perkins Center of the Arts in Morristown and Collingswood features exciting themes for children this holiday season and January 2017 term. Get festive with a Holiday Workshop; choose from Snow Much Fun, Winter Wonderland American Folk Art, Personalized Holiday Ornaments, or more. This January, spend some quality time with your little artist in Parent and Child Building Together with Clay, or send your potter into an age appropriate pottery class on their own.  Several drawing, drama, and and art exploration classes are also available this winter for kids of all ages.

North Jersey: L3 Academy in Montclair has a winter class schedule that is packed with the best STEM classes one can imagine for their little one. Choose a course from Brick Academy for all things LEGO including robotics and motorized machines, think critically in Chess with the Chess Master or Stock Wizards: Financial Education. Other course categories your STEAM enthusiast might be interested are Minecraft Madness, Coding Academy, Science, Math Academy, and Young Learners. There is something for everybody at L3 Academy!

Central Jersey: Engineering for Kids in Edison and South Brunswick Township gets children excited about math, science and engineering concepts by introducing them to exciting projects from rockets to skyscrapers, from computer science to robotics, from Minecraft to 3D-printing. Little ones are invited to join the Old Bridge Apprentice Engineer Club to how real world engineers solve problems. Junior Computer Science: Music Adventure is a 6 week program that teaches students how to create their own instrument sounds using the programs Scratch and Makey Makey.

South Jersey: Rowan University in Glassboro offers real college-level courses to South Jersey high school students through the university’s STEM and Bio-Med Academy. High school students living within 20 miles of Glamssboro have the opportunity to earn up to 16 credits with this unique School Choice Program by taking on-site classes at Rowan University in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

North Jersey: Writers Theatre of New Jersey in Madison presents numerous opportunities for children and teens to exercise their skills in creative writing through several mediums and outlets. New Jersey Writers Project offers several residency and enrichment programs according to your child’s school requirements. Writers Theatre of New Jersey also champions young poets and playwrights by producing programs like Poetry Out Loud, NJ Youth Poet Laureate, and the Youth Playwrights Program.

Central Jersey: Project Write Now in Red Bank is a non-profit organization where beginners and avid writers alike can get excited about the wide variety of courses available this winter, including Story Magic, Songwriting, Flash Fiction, and Insta Ink. Project Write Now instructors focus on the craft of writing, exploring such narrative techniques as characterization, voice, dialogue & structure, while also providing a safe, supportive environment to experiment and take risks.

South Jersey: Eilandarts Center in Merchantville is a one-stop shop for all things creative in South Jersey. Create Journal Writing for ages 8 to 12 encourages children to discover the natural world by observing their surroundings and using stories to learn what people see in nature. Teenagers ages 15 and up are invited to Eilandarts Poetry Class. This arts center also offers children’s classes in photography, yoga, music, art, and more.

North Jersey: Montclair Music Studio in Montclair has been providing the highest quality music instruction for 38 years. Recitals at the end of each term are a great way for little ones to gain performance experience and develop confidence in their music.

Central Jersey: Academy of Music and Drama in Little Silver offers music and drama lessons by the shore, in Monmouth County. Children can take private lessons in the instrument of their choice, or opt for one of many group classes, including group guitar or piano lessons (for students who benefit from or enjoy working in a team), or meet once a week with their Rock Band to practice and perform music from the classic rock and pop repertoire of today.

South Jersey: New Jersey School of Music in Medford and Cherry Hill was established in 1958 and is the oldest music school in South Jersey. NJSM offers music lessons and music therapy for everyone from the aspiring rock star to the child with an interest in their school band.
