From birth control options to bumps and beyond, finding a doctor you love and trust who can treat your entire reproductive journey as a woman is huge. As a mom whose given birth four times in the past 5 years, I know this first hand! Many mamas find themselves switching doctors once they’re ready to have babies, especially if they’re seeking fertility consultations or wanting a new doctor when they’ve decided their families are complete. But Jersey City Medical Center’s Women’s Health at Grove St., an RWJBarnabas Health facility, is aiming to change that by operating as a full-service facility that treats a woman no matter what stage of life she’s in. I got a chance to check out what the center has to offer to make a woman’s health journey more seamless and convenient every step of the way.
From routine exams to prenatal care at JCMC Women’s Health
Walking into the office, I immediately got a warm, welcoming vibe. The space has an inviting tone that doesn’t feel cold or clinical, which is something the patients I spoke with mentioned as a factor in choosing the practice. And whether you’re coming in for a routine gynecological well-visit or for a follow-up during pregnancy, the team at JCMC’s Women’s Health at Grove St. believes women’s health should be a collaborative, ongoing approach. I noticed that right away when I saw the practice has a midwifery staff in-office, which works in tandem with the obstetrics team to treat expectant moms through their pregnancy and postpartum period. This is a great option for women looking for a more holistic approach to their prenatal care, while still ensuring they have medical expertise. I also found it really amazing that hopeful mamas-to-be can also see fertility specialists in the same office as they consider options for starting or expanding their families. It’s unique to see that in a practice, and another way to create a unified team approach to women’s health.
Mammograms, menopause and more
I also got a chance to hear about how JCMC’s Women‘s Health at Grove St. is in the process of expanding, adding imaging services right in the same office. Mamas, this is a big deal — especially since women are often sent elsewhere for mammograms or other important diagnostic tests. Being able to go right upstairs to get those kind of tests done in conjunction with your annual exam is a huge plus. The practice is aiming to make things as convenient and comfortable as possible, so you can get to know the entire staff and rely on having just one place to go for all of your female health treatments. I know for me, the doctor/patient relationship is so crucial, so I loved hearing the doctors say their goal is to develop an ongoing, lasting relationship by treating a woman from her pre-pregnancy years all the way through menopause and beyond. That’s the kind of care any #NJMOM would want.
