As parents, having difficult conversations with your kids can be pretty nerve-wracking, so much that those conversations are pushed off so they’re not had at all. With so many things happening in the world right now, it’s getting pretty overwhelming for us parents to handle. That’s why we want to invite you to join us on Instagram LIVE this Thursday, June 18th, at 8:30 PM for our weekly check-in and chat series. This week we’re speaking with Kaydeen Bishop, a clinical social worker and therapist of Kay’s Safe Space, a therapeutic counseling center for children and adolescents in a nurturing creative environment that allows clients to speak their truth. We’ll be sitting down with Kay to discuss ways for starting the conversation and talking to kids of all ages about race, and also discussing what’s happening in our world right now. We hope you can join us, so to do it, head over to our Instagram page on Thursday night at 8:30 PM, and click the live button on our logo. Send a quick hello in the comments, tell us how you’re doing, or ask us a question—we’d love to hear from you.

Kaydeen Bishop, LCSW, of Kay’s Safe Space

About Kay Bishop

As a NJ Mom to a 6-year-old, and having worked for over 15 years with adolescents in the juvenile justice system and correctional settings, Kay has been exposed to children who have suffered all sorts of traumas and stressors. Because of this, she felt compelled to provide a safe space for children with a history of childhood traumas, behavioral issues, or even substance abuse. Together with her team, she works with individuals using a combination of treatment methods that include play therapy. Having also worked with many black children and adolescents within the juvenile justice system— race and racial identity are topics that she addresses frequently with families, which has made the last few weeks very eye-opening for her both as a therapist and a mother.
