  7. Under these conditions, large commercial farms are not viable. Small local farms have had to develop a niche with crops having a special appeal to people who enjoy fresh, farm-to-table, fully ripened, healthy food. Since many of the local farm products depend heavily on weather conditions, it is strongly suggested when planning a day trip to a pick your own farm that you call ahead to confirm current crop picking conditions and times.

  10. Many of the farms listed are not certified organic farms. This is a disservice to the consumers looking for organic products, and to the hard working men and women farmers who step up to the plate and get themselves certified. A few of these folks have received cease and desist letters from the National Organic Program because they are NOT using organic practices. If you truly want to find organic farms, then their names should appear on this listing: https://apps.ams.usda.gov/integrity/
