NJ Mom’s Weekend Fun Guide: Things To Do 2/28-3/1


The end of February is the perfect time of the year to enjoy New Jersey’s… maple trees. You didn’t think I was going to talk about maple trees as a ‘family fun thing to do’ did you? Well, we have two farms on our list this week for your family to ‘tap that tree,’ including the Sugar Maple Celebration at Duke Farms. Just Bead It is the perfect place for a Mommy and Me date and everyone’s favorite story book, The Berenstain Bears, is live in a musical this weekend!

Big Apple Circus [Featured Event of the Weekend]

The Big Apple Circus, New York’s original one-ring circus, celebrates their all-new 35th Anniversary season with a production of Legendarium at the Somerset Patriots TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater.  The best part of seeing a show at the ballpark is that the each seat is just a maximum 50 feet away from the daredevils, clowns, animals and more!

1) Get Breakfast!
Saturday February 28th 7:30am-10:00am
Start the weekend off right with a delicious breakfast at The Pop Shop for their Saturday morning Pajama Party!  Kids get to wear their pajamas and eat for free with a paying adult.  Looking for something to do after breakfast?  The Adventure Aquarium is a short drive away!

2) Day of Play
Saturday February 28th 9:30am-10:30am
Join the Hoboken Kidville for a morning of play with arts & crafts and music.  After the class, stay for open play!  Perfect for kids ages 2 to 4!

3) Sugar Maple Celebration
Saturday February 28th and Sunday March 1st 10:00am-2:00pm
Duke Farms is celebrating the Sugar Maple this weekend. Get ready to tap a tree and watch the maple sugaring process from start to finish.  There are also many great activities throughout the weekend such as nature hikes, tree identification, enjoy New Jersey maple syrup and see a live sawmill demonstration.

4) Kids Fun Fair
Saturday February 28th and Sunday March 1st
The Kids Fun Fair is this weekend at the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center.  Enjoy rides, games and animals!  Kids are free!

The beloved fairy tale of Cinderella will be real told in a musical rendition at the Pax Amicus Castle Theater.  Watch what happens as Cinderella finally makes her way to the ball and the Prince, the Fairy Godmother and the Step-Sisters discover what happens “If the Shoe Fits…”.

6) Baby Loves Disco
Saturday February 28th 11:00am-1:30pm
Kids loves to dance and Baby Loves Disco gave them their very own original family dance party to get down in a family friendly environment with a real DJ and MC.  Activities besides dancing include face painting, sock puppets, temporary tattoos and more!  Juice and snacks are available for the little ones to purchase.

7) Reading and Beading
Saturday February 28th 11:30am-12:30pm
Saturday is a great day for a Mommy and Me date at Just Bead It.  Enjoy a Pinkalicious storybook reading while your child creates a pink bracelet or a pink beaded bookmark.  You can create your own earrings!  Perfect for ages 3-6.

8) Berenstain Bears Live!
Saturday February 28th 1:00pm and 4:00pm
Everyone’s beloved children’s book series The Berenstain Bears comes to life this week at the Levoy Theater.  Ma, Pa, Brother and Sister Bear are live on stage in Family Matters: The Musical.

9) Go Bowling for a Good Cause!

Come out and have fun while raising money for a great cause – The Promise Walk for Preeclampsia, Philadelphia-South Jersey.  Enjoy two hours of bowling, shoe rentals, one pizza pie for lane and soda!

10) Seasonal Science Activities at the Wetlands Institute
Sunday March 1st 10:00am-4:00pm
Self-explore at the Wetlands Institute with a science activity or a seasonal craft.  They supply the crafts, you create!  While you are at the institute, learn about the creatures of New Jersey’s salty waters like whelk, skates, sea urchins, sea stars are more!

11) Frozen Sing-A-Long
Sunday March 1st 1:00pm
It’s Customer Appreciation Day at the State Theater.  Join a special sing-a-long version of Frozen free of charge and no reservations required.  Come back at 5pm for the second free movie of the day – Guardians of the Galaxy.

12) Green Tree Lighting

13) Reeves-Reed Arboretum

It’s time to tap the trees at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum!  Enjoy tapping and cooking demonstrations, followed by tasting of course!  There will be scavenger hunts and games as well.  It will be a pretty sweet afternoon outdoors.

14)  Historic Longstreet Farm
Sunday March 1st 1:00pm-3:00pm
Go back in time and see how a farm of the late 1800s worked.  This weekend, enjoy the sounds of the Music Man and listen to piano music of 1890s in the farmhouse.  The kids will enjoy seeing the pigs, sheep, horses and cows as well.  Historic Longstreet Farm is located at Holmdel Park.  Don’t forget your sleds, as this is a NJMom-approved Sledding location!
