Get ready to fly through the universe, roam distant planets, and navigate asteroid fields all from the comfort of your own seat at the new Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and Giant Dome Theater at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ. Officially the largest and most technologically advanced planetarium in all of the Western Hemisphere, we’re lucky enough to have the new planetarium right here in our own backyard for an easy day trip.
A Must-Visit New Jersey Attraction at Liberty Science Center
“The new planetarium can now recreate the night sky with beautiful pin-like stars for the first time since the
science center opened in 1993 because of its new technology,” shared Mike Shanahan, the Planetarium Director at Liberty Science Center.
The planetarium experience will take you flying through the sky to Saturn with its astonishing rings as you gaze at the amazing constellations, and then right back home to our back yard at LSC.
The Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium boasts a lighting system that produces over 281 trillion individual colors, a resolution of 88 million pixels, and new speakers capable of producing 30,000 watts of digital sound. Your view and experience will be so life-like, you’ll feel like you are walking on Saturn with a full dome-view of the night sky and distant galaxies.
As part of Liberty Science Center’s live show Wonders of the Universe you’ll see the Orion Nebula—one of the crown jewels of the night sky—at a level of detail never before seen, prior to its official release at the American Astronomical Society in Washington, D.C. next year.
The new planetarium can now recreate the night sky with beautiful pin-like stars for the 1st time since the science center first opened in 1993 because of its new technology.
