Want to celebrate frontline workers and health care heroes during these challenging times? RWJBarnabas Health is once again teaming up with the New Jersey Devils to host their annual Running with the Devils 5K Walk and Run, and this year it’s going to be even more special. With a new, virtual format, the race has been extended throughout the entire month of October with awesome opportunities to interact with NJ Devil players, frontline healthcare heroes, and animal experts from the Turtleback Zoo. And we’ve got an amazing offer too: Be one of the first 100 people to register and save 25% using the code ‘NJMOM’. Of course, it’s all for a good cause—100% of the proceeds will go to the RWJBarnabas Health Emergency Response Fund, to help protect patients and healthcare members from COVID-19 and other emergencies.
Continue the tradition virtually
This annual event supports the commitment that RWJBarnabas Health and the NJ Devils uphold to work towards a healthier community by promoting healthy, active lifestyles and world-class healthcare. This year’s event will have the same spirit, but doing things a little differently—instead of one day, it will start October 1 and end October 25, so you can log in anywhere, and any time you like to hit that 5K goal. And good to know: The donations will go towards the local RWJBH facility of your choosing ensuring the safety of all caregivers, frontline workers, and staff, and that there is ongoing preparation to protect communities from COVID-19 or other emergencies. It’s an excellent opportunity to give back to our #healthcareheroes who have sacrificed so much to keep us healthy and safe.
Be a part of the fun
This year, you’ll download the RunGo App to participate. Once you sign up, choose from three different race themes and routes such as Run with the Devils, Run with the Animals, or Run with Our Heroes. Each theme will have unique and encouraging messages and fun facts from NJ Devils players, frontline healthcare heroes, and animal experts at the Turtle Back Zoo. And you will get to virtually run along with New Jersey Devils players and their wives along with alumni like Ken Deneyko, Grant Marshall, Bryce Salvador, and many others who will be participating in the race in their communities.
With registration, you’ll receive a custom training program with videos from RWJBarnabas Health’s fitness and wellness experts. You’ll get strength, agility, and conditioning tips, along with nutrition tips from the RWJBH team of experts to improve your times and distance for the virtual race and your health overall.
Ready to sign up for the virtual race? Here’s how
The good news is registration is now open and if you’re one of the first 100 to sign up you can get 25% off when you use the code ‘NJMOM’. Don’t forget to download the RunGo App so you can submit your time and be eligible for awards and prizes. Registration for “virtual runners” ages 12 and over is $25, and for walkers 12 and over, registration is $20. Children ages 11 and under are free. Then start a fundraising campaign with friends and family, which depending on the level of funds raised, can include incentives such as signed New Jersey Devils merchandise and a virtual video conference with current NJ Devils players and alumni.
Then, starting from October 1 through October 25, you can participate on local roads, the park, the boardwalk at the beach, the treadmill, or even just your living room, to run or walk the 5K. Complete the route as many times as you like or try all three for one registration price. After each race, through the RunGo app, submit your time and the app will register your best time by October 25.
Awards will be presented for the top three male and female participants, and the top three winners in each age category.
Can’t participate in the virtual 5K? You can still get in on the action of giving back by donating or contributing to someone you know that’s racing.
