Although this Mother’s Day is going to be a bit different than other ones, the sentiment is the same—it’s a day celebrating you and every mom in your life. With that in mind, we reached out to the #NJMOM squad and asked what their plans were for the day (spoiler alert: wine will be involved). So go ahead and spoil yourself this Sunday—because seriously mamas, you deserve it.

Take a break for yourself

“Brunch & no diaper duty!” – Julianne G. on Facebook

This Sunday, the best Mother’s Day gift could just be a break—have your S.O entertain the kids with a walk or car ride or have them all play a game in the basement while you’re upstairs or outside. Pour yourself a mimosa or a glass of wine, take in the sun, listen to your favorite podcast on a leisurely walk, binge on that Netflix show you’ve been wanting to watch, and enjoy the time to yourself.

Have a family photoshoot

I’ve asked to sleep in and do a photoshoot outside with my kids ❤️” – Carolyn K. on Facebook

Now couldn’t be a better time to schedule a “photoshoot” with your kids: Have everyone dress up, then set up the self-timer on your phone or a camera. Even if you just get a single snap, it’ll be one you’re always look back on, and remember the blessings you had on Mother’s Day 2020.

Spend family time together virtually

“I bought a paint kit for me and my mom, sister, SIL, and we will paint virtually together.” – Robyn W. on Facebook

Make it a mom’s day in with a virtual party: You can plan to share a meal, bake together, or do an at-home virtual class with materials you pick up ahead. Check out Pinot’s Palette for a virtual wine and paint class specifically for moms on Mother’s Day. Or for more ideas, here’s our list of virtual classes for adults and kids that can be fun to do with your family, wherever they are.

Go for a social-distance hike

If the weather’s nice we’ll maybe go for a hike and then have a picnic. Mimosas for sure too.” – Sarah C. on Facebook

Now that Governor Murphy has re-opened New Jersey’s parks and trails (with proper social distance protocols),  get back to nature. Have the hubby prepare lunch so you don’t have to (or pick-up your food curbside to-go from your favorite restaurant) and set up a picnic. Not only will it be a change of scenery, but you’ll love the calm quality time with the ones you love most. Check out our list of great trails and parks to visit around NJ here.

Take a day off from cooking

What’s the ultimate Mother’s Day gift? Not having to cook—leave it up to your family to take care of the meal prep and cooking. They can order in, but what’s really hands-on is a DIY kit where all the ingredients are included and you don’t have to lift a finger. Try a pizza one with a Zoom how-to from Tony Boloney’s, sushi from Sushi Hana, or an ice cream sundae kit from Pink Ice Cream. With all the ingredients and directions included, these DIY kits are easy enough, making it a fun time for the fam with minimal stress involved. Check out a few of our fave local DIY Kits here, as well as this list of DIY kits being sold around NJ.

Set up a wine and cheese tasting

“My husband will be working so I will be celebrating with our 2 year old. WINE will be involved.” – Courtney M. on Facebook

You might not be able to hit the NJ wine trail for a Mother’s Day of wine tasting and eating cheese, but you can hit them up for delivery of your favorite wines and sangrias to recreate the experience at home. Cape May Winery is shipping wine kits to NJ, NY, and PA, while 4JG’s Winery will be open Mother’s Day weekend on Saturday and Sunday, offering special Mother’s Day gift packaging, curbside pickup and deliveries local delivery. And for an authentic tasting experience, William Heritage Vineyards is offering their DIY tasting kits, which include the wines, an evaluation sheet, and a list of recommended cheese pairings.
