Juice Beach Owner and NJMOMpreneur: Genevieve Pahos

Genevieve Pahos is the NJMOMpreneur and half of the mother/ daughter dream team that owns Juice Beach, your new favorite spot for healthy smoothies, juices, salads (and more) at the Jersey Shore. NJMOM had the pleasure of speaking with Genevieve about the inspiration for starting her business, life lessons from her mother and her favorite spots around New Jersey to have fun with her 8 year old daughter.

NJMOM: What do you offer to your clients and how is it different than other professionals in your field? Genevieve: At Juice Beach we offer everything from juices and protein shakes to acai bowls and salads, and we specialize in 3 day-juice cleanses. What I think really differentiates us is that we are a mother/ daughter business that prides ourselves on keeping the experience personal for our customers. We make everything to order and can customize our cleanses, as well as a single order, based on our customer’s health issues or taste preferences.

NJMOM: What inspired you to come up with the idea for your business?
Genevieve: When I was about 10 years old my mother was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and was given a bleak outlook from doctors, but through diet and nutrition she was able to cure herself. Since then we have both been inspired to help make others healthy by making things that are both nutritious and delicious. We dreamed of opening a shop together and five years ago we made it happen!

NJMOM: What is your favorite part about your business?
Genevieve:

My favorite part about this business is making people see that being healthy doesn’t have to be hard.

NJMOM: What is your background in your business expertise?
Genevieve: My mother and I both came from corporate backgrounds. After seeing what changing her diet could do, my mother earned her PhD in nutrition and I was lucky enough to learn at Hippocrates Health Institute so we could bring our knowledge in nutrition to our customers.

“It doesn’t get any fresher than this!”

NJMOM: Who is your role model?
Genevieve: My mother is my role model. Not only did she overcome her illness, but she was able to take her experience and make it positive.

NJMOM: What’s the best piece of advice your mom ever gave to you?
Genevieve: Live your passion and it will always lead to success.

NJMOM: What are your favorite things to do in NJ with your family?
Genevieve: There are so many things to do in New Jersey that it’s hard to pick! It goes without saying that I love spending time in Asbury Park, and of course, we love the beach. My daughter Julia and I both love exploring all of the awesome shops and when we are done we have our pick of amazing restaurants. When we are not in Asbury Park, our favorite escape spot is definitely Cape May. It is less than two hours away but you feel like you are on vacation, and the zoo is Julia’s favorite!

NJMOM: What is the best part about being a mom for you?
Genevieve: The best part about being a mom is watching my baby grow into the most beautiful young lady. Julia is turning 8 in two weeks and watching her grow and learn is the most amazing thing in the whole world. I could not be more proud of her.

“In the summer, boogie boarding at the beach is definitely our favorite activity!”

NJMOM: What are your favorite businesses in NJ?
Genevieve: We love shopping and dining around Asbury Park, and it is really hard to pick just one. But if you ask Julia where she wants to go in Asbury, she will surely say either the Asbury Festhalle & Biergarten (one of the reasons I love her so much) or Taka Japanese Restaurant. When we leave Asbury she would pick Kaya’s Kitchen in Belmar. Some of our favorite shops are Backward Glances and the Antique Emporium on Cookman Avenue. It is so much fun to look through antiques, and Julia loves it! She also loves grabbing blind bags from Shelter Home.  My personal new favorite is Rebel Supply Co.  In the summer, boogie boarding at the beach is definitely our favorite activity. We also love the bon fires and free beach movies at night all summer long. For dessert we love grabbing vegan ice cream from Cookman Creamery or a huge shaved ice and natural candy from Betty’s.

“Three day juice cleanses are our specialty.”

NJMOM: Where do you reside and vacation in New Jersey?
Genevieve: I recently moved from Asbury Park to Tinton Falls, so now we have a yard and are still close to the beach. Our favorite vacation spot in NJ is definitely Cape May and when I need a girls night out, I love spending the night in Atlantic City. Even though these destinations are only 1 – 2 hours away from our home, both of these places make you feel like you are in another state and are a great escape from reality all year long.
NJMOM: Anything else you’d like to tell moms in NJ?
Genevieve:
Stay healthy and have fun!
