SUMMARY:Beak Week
DESCRIPTION:Beak Week is an exciting\, new\, week-long birding competition happening in New Jersey this April. Participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate by creating a team\, competing as a pair\, or testing individual skills. \nRegistrants will collect pledges and spend the week of April 17–24 exploring a wide variety of New Jersey bird habitats including woodland forests\, shores and wetlands\, and even urban landscapes. During these explorations\, participants will listen intently to calls\, look through binoculars to identify colors and patterns\, and record as many different species of birds as they possibly can. Lists will be compiled and winners with the most species of birds will be announced after the completion of the week-long competition. \nThis competition is a new birding adventure and community celebration of nature and conservation. Prior birding experience is not necessary. Whether someone is brand new to birding or a seasoned veteran\, Beak week is an opportunity to get involved\, have fun\, and learn more about feathered friends soaring through the sky. More information regarding the rules and benefits of this birdathon and how to get involved can be found at hartshornarboretum.org/support/beak-week-2026. Beak week is organized and run by the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary in Short Hills\, but the competition will happen throughout New Jersey.

DESCRIPTION:The largest Renaissance Faire in New Jersey is located off major highways\, including the NJ Turnpike in Northern Burlington County\, 75 minutes south of NYC\, and 30 minutes north of Philadelphia. Taking place the last two weekends of May and first two weekends of June\, the NJ Ren Faire is a magical experience for young children through senior citizens\, as patrons enjoy a 16th century village of performers\, merchants\, food vendors\, and interactive townspeople from the “Village of Crossford.” You won’t be able to tell the actors from the patrons\, as many dress-up in beautiful costumes (and some\, more simple and silly!) Shows range from singing\, swordfighting\, comedy\, fire breathing\, belly dancing\, and more. Over 100 artisan merchants sell hand-made products like clothing\, candles\, crystal balls\, and most anything you can imagine- it’s basically a medieval flea market- but they too\, are in character\, and all products are handmade. There are kid-specific activities and performers\, including a mermaid\, and Shelli Buttons- a magical aero-pixie\, who is an absolute delight\, but just roaming the paths of Crossford itself is a total hoot! Child tickets are only $12\, and it’s free for under 5 years old- Pack plenty of water and snacks\, and plan on being there for a while\, if you can- some families return for multiple days\, and you can even purchase a ticket for the family dog! DESCRIPTION:The County College of Morris will highlight NASA’s Artemis mission to the Moon in a full dome planetarium show Forward to the Moon starting Friday\, April 10. The planetarium’s popular shows Cosmic Colors and Starlit Nights will also be running this spring. These three 45-minute shows blend cutting-edge technology with immersive storytelling and will be presented beneath the 33-foot-diameter dome to reveal the beauty\, science and wonder of the cosmos. Shows are presented on the 2nd and 4th weekends of the month on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

DESCRIPTION:The largest Renaissance Faire in New Jersey is located off major highways\, including the NJ Turnpike in Northern Burlington County\, 75 minutes south of NYC\, and 30 minutes north of Philadelphia. Taking place the last two weekends of May and first two weekends of June\, the NJ Ren Faire is a magical experience for young children through senior citizens\, as patrons enjoy a 16th century village of performers\, merchants\, food vendors\, and interactive townspeople from the “Village of Crossford.” You won’t be able to tell the actors from the patrons\, as many dress-up in beautiful costumes (and some\, more simple and silly!) Shows range from singing\, swordfighting\, comedy\, fire breathing\, belly dancing\, and more. Over 100 artisan merchants sell hand-made products like clothing\, candles\, crystal balls\, and most anything you can imagine- it’s basically a medieval flea market- but they too\, are in character\, and all products are handmade. There are kid-specific activities and performers\, including a mermaid\, and Shelli Buttons- a magical aero-pixie\, who is an absolute delight\, but just roaming the paths of Crossford itself is a total hoot! Child tickets are only $12\, and it’s free for under 5 years old- Pack plenty of water and snacks\, and plan on being there for a while\, if you can- some families return for multiple days\, and you can even purchase a ticket for the family dog!
