December 31, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Sunday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until December 31, 2020
2nd Floor, North Wing
This year-long installation presents the sound sculptures of Wolfgang Gil in the context of abstract art from the Museum’s collection. Gil’s installations explore the sculptural quality of sound, inviting us to contemplate listening as a phenomenon. They create opportunities for experiencing external space as well as our internal perceptual processes. A Venezuelan-born American artist who lives and works in Newark, Gil employs sound as a malleable material with curves, edges, and changing geometries—a medium that can be stretched in all dimensions. Sonic Geometries showcases three of Gil’s large-scale sound sculptures, including one created in 2020 that will debut in this show.
