New Jersey is home to many ambitious and talented dads who juggle family and career. A select few of these men are also extremely busy building their own companies to help better manage the whole work-life balance. At NJ Mom, we want to highlight these extraordinary dads building NJ businesses and learn the secret to their success.
Nausil Zaheer is the NJ Dadpreneur and owner of Karma Organic Spa. NJ Mom had the wonderful opportunity to ask Nausil a few questions about his business and himself; here’s what he had to share.
Certified Organic Salon Owner and NJ Dadpreneur: Nausil Zaheer
NJMOM: What do you offer to your clients and how is it different than other professionals in your field?
Nausil: We are the first certified organic nail salon in the country and we cater to pregnant woman and cancer patients. We are different because we use only organic products. Other salons in the area say that they are organic, however still offer services as gel manicures and use harsh products such as acetone.
NJMOM: What inspired you to come up with the idea for your business?
Nausil: When I was waiter, I use to get a pedicure from being on my feet all day. I would be sick all the time from the fumes, I would have sore throat and would cough a lot. One of the patrons of the restaurant who happened to be a doctor noticed that I was sick at least once a week so she asked if I went to a nail salon and I told her I do go and she suggested that I stopped going to the salon for a bit and see if I noticed any changes. So within a month’s time of not going to the salon I felt so much better, so from there began my search for a nail salon that didn’t offer such harsh products but couldn’t find anywhere. So I put a pregnant woman in the middle and built the salon around her.
NJMOM: What is your favorite part about your business?
Nausil:That I wake up every morning doing what I love every day. Clients come into my salon and leave happy without worrying about puffy eyes or any issues that may arise in using harsh chemicals due to them using my organic nail products.
NJMOM:What is your background in your business expertise?
Nausil: I’ve been a business person all my life. I actually started at the 1996 Olympics selling bottles of water and even as a waiter I would have people trying to book their table directly with me.
NJMOM: Who is your role model?
Nausil: My role model is my mother she would always push me to do what I loved and was always there for me.
NJMOM: What’s the best piece of advice your mom ever gave to you?
Nausil: My mother would always say,
do what you love and always give, the more you give the more you receive.
NJMOM:What are your favorite things to do in NJ with your family?
Nausil: Going out to dinner, walking around town and supporting the local businesses. There a lot of beautiful restaurants here in Ridgewood.
NJMOM: What is the best part about being a dad for you?
Nausil: The most important part about being a dad is seeing my son grow up and going to college. He will be the first generation going to college. I am enjoying every aspect of it from going to view the colleges, filling out applications and meeting the counselors.
NJMOM: What are your favorite businesses in New Jersey?
Nausil: It is a new coffee shop that opened up in town called Grandma’s Secret Coffee. It is beautifully done and also offers homemade pastries.
NJMOM: Where do you reside in New Jersey?
Nausil: I currently reside in Ridgewood, NJ.
NJMOM: Anything else you’d like to tell parents in New Jersey?
